Confidence

Confidence. Some people have an “over abundance” while others are plagued with striving to attain more! We’ve all seen the “confident” sports team who just KNOWS they are going to win the game. They’re picked, chosen, favored to win. Perhaps the team they are up against doesn’t stand a chance. Then, swooping down from somewhere comes the smashing of their “over confident” smiles. They leave the field defeated — and shaking their heads at the turn of events.

Over SELF confidence is what got them in trouble! They were “big enough” in their own eyes to do the job — which confidently got them into trouble!

The best kind of confidence we can have isn’t confidence in ourselves, but confidence in Another. Another with a hand large enough to scoop out valleys and create the mountains. Feet large enough to use the earth around us as a “footstool.” Wisdom deep enough to be found at the end of every honest soul’s search and be found as Truth. Breath powerful enough to bring immortality to mortal human beings. Love wide enough to stretch its arms out on an undeserving Cross so we wouldn’t have to.

“Blessed is the man who trusteth in Jehovah, and whose confidence Jehovah is: for he shall be like a tree . . . Which stretcheth forth its roots by the water source, so that it shall not fear when heat cometh, but its leaf shall be verdant; which is not uneasy in the year of drought.”(Spurrell.)

When I read this quote in an old, old devotional book of mine, those words seemed to parachute off the page and land in my heart. “Whose confidence Jehovah IS!” He’s not only the One we place our confidence IN — HE IS OUR CONFIDENCE!

We can march forward boldly to face a faith-filled future — for HE is our confidence! We place no confidence in the flesh, or any other source. We trust in the name of the Lord our God!

Faith-filled confidence — for He is worthy.

“O, Lord — remind us that You are our confidence. In the heat of the day, when fear zooms in — tempting to override faith — help us retain our faithful confidence — Jehovah Himself! We are yours!”

In Jesus’ name, Amen

Take it with You
“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.“ Psalm 1 (NIV)
