Galatians 5:16-25
As a married couple, making each other a priority takes will power – plus a decision to do so on purpose! Most of us wouldn’t want it any other way, after all we love each other, but life gets busy, demands are many, and before you know it, the legitimate has overrun the most important and left you with an empty handful of things to do.
It was my husband’s “day off.” Sure, there were a million and one things we could have done, but we chose, on purpose, to make a date of this day and head for the Blue Ridge Mountains, not far from our home.
It was the fall of the year, and birds were headed south. When we got up into the mountains, we kept seeing these men off to the side of the road with gigantic binoculars, looking out over the various, magnificent valleys. Some of them even had tri-pods supporting their prized equipment.
My husband had seen them before, so he had a little bit of an idea what they were doing. They were “bird-watchers!” Someone had even tracked 1,800 birds in one day! We strained our eyes to catch a glimpse of what they were trying to tell us. We learned so much. But it wasn’t until they gave us a chance to look through their lens we could see what they were talking about. It was absolutely amazing! Without those binoculars, it looked like the normal blue sky – gorgeous valley view. Looking through them, we were made aware that there were all kinds of things happening in that sky!
“They’re really flapping today,” one of them commented. “They’ll never make it if they do that all the way south.” We must have looked like the novices we are – for they went on to explain. When a bird came into the valley, usually he was caught up in a particular air current. This current carried him along, making it possible for him to glide through the valley without flapping his wings.
The Holy Spirit had an object lesson for me. So gently He whispered into my spirit. My desire intensified – and stays strong until this day! “Lord, let me live IN You and be carried by the wind of the Spirit, never flapping around in the flesh!”
